“Hi… Farmer Jones here”…that’s what you’ve heard every weekday at 6.40 and 12.40 as I’ve opened up the world of farming to both MFR and Radio Borders listeners. However, that’s not all we do at Farmer Jones and this website tells the full story not only of my radio, but also my writing, food sales and education activities.
I was born and bred into a life of farming and it’s my passion, so when MFR and then Radio Borders offered me the chance to host their daily farming programmes, I didn’t have to think twice. Over the 12 years I’ve been broadcasting I have had a lot of support from Mrs Farmer-Jones, my friends, family and especially other farmers who all love to tell me their stories...
And that’s the point – everyone has a story to tell, whether it’s long, short, funny or serious and just when we think we’ve heard it all – along comes some news to send us off again around our patch!
You can listen again to our latest radio programmes with some longer versions when we simply can’t squeeze it all into the radio slot.
I have also been asked to write a monthly agricultural business and opinion column for the SPP Group of newspapers and the Farming North magazine and you can find these items here shortly after their publication.
Not only do we talk and write about food, but we can bring the farm right to your door with our new online ordering/delivery system. Check out our latest Hamper range, full of artisan food and drink goodies from the Highlands. Our aim is to make it as easy as possible for shoppers to support local.
But the most exciting challenges have arrived with this Farmer Jones Academy website where we’ll be helping the next generation of would-be farming and growing entrepreneurs to find their place in this fast expanding industry. Farming, Food and Drink has now overtaken Oil and Gas to become the largest Industry in Scotland and is set to be worth £30 billion to our economy by 2030, and employing nearly 1 in 10 people. Find out more about the Academy.
Please take a little while to look around our website and feel free to comment and don’t forget, if you’ve an interesting story for us, we would love to hear from you. Get in touch.
